This custom surfboard intervention was created from a personalized commission in which the client requested a feminine energy color palette, but expressed through a completely unique and original design. The creative process approached the surfboard as a contemporary art object merging aesthetics, technique, and durability for real use in the ocean.
The surface of the board was prepared with a high-pressure spray base, using four distinct aerosol colors layered carefully to create smooth gradients between pink, purple, and blue tones. This initial layer establishes the visual atmosphere of the piece: an enveloping energy that blends serenity with strength, evoking the feminine through abstract chromatics.
The linear detailing was then executed with high-precision POSCA acrylic markers, allowing for extremely thin, fluid, and controlled strokes. From an exploration of the feminine gaze as a universal symbol intense, deep, courageous, and conscious the central composition emerged: a pair of eyes opening between organic lines that flow with the natural curvature of the board. These lines, characteristic of my personal style, intentionally break the rigidity of the surface, expanding outward to encourage a multidirectional perception that invites viewers to read the piece from multiple angles.
The design draws inspiration from an earlier prototype, but evolved into a more intuitive visual language: elements of gestural expressionism, layers of movement that behave like internal currents, and a visual narrative that embodies bravery and freedom. As a surfer and ocean lover, my intention was to capture the eternal passion for the sport, the spiritual connection with nature, and the sensory experience of the sea, translated into an art piece that also serves as a functional extension of the body in motion.
To ensure long-lasting durability and performance, the board was sealed with two additional protective spray layers: one with UV filtering to preserve pigment under sunlight, and another formulated to resist saltwater, friction, and active use. The final result is a hybrid piece contemporary art and performance equipment coexisting in a single object, accompanying the surfer in their intimate dialogue with the ocean.
